about

Dawnne you have found the place wherein Dawnne is occasionally over-serious with himself (yes, HIM-self), indiscriminately waxes nostalgic over little nothings, and sometimes shares photographs of things he’s seen, family, and all that good stuff. originally titled “Synthaetic Synapse”, and later, “hidden light”, when this blog started out, it was largely about our my preparing to meet with my first daughter, whom i did not get to raise, and about her recent interactions with my mother while she was going through a bit of a hard time with her own mother and step-father. it has since migrated on to other things, still largely interpersonal, but delves into the general often enough.

the name of this blog is a pun on an old tune by The Orb.

although i go personal on a variety of subjects, and while i will be documenting some of my studies of metaphysical divination and oracular practices, this site mostly has to do with family and adoption— to the extent that these things are so fundamental you won’t find categories for them. of the sixty-odd posts that exist at the timei wrote this ‘about’ page, i’d say a good fifty of them could or should be read in the light of my experiences as an adoptee and the father of a child placed for adoption. i do intend, eventually, to write directly on these matters, but i’d like the benefit of a bit more clarity of experience. i’m only forty, and much of all that is still somewhat unresolved at this time.

non-family persons may well be confused by obviously family-centric posts, and i must beg your indulgence in this regard. when i moved this blog to its own domain, i spent a lot of time re-organizing the tags more accurately and logically. hopefully, they will be of some use to you, but i retain (and frequently exercise) the right to be obtuse, surreal or otherwise non-specific.

“dawnne”, which is an incredibly non-unique spelling which i had the audacity to think i had made up back in 1987, and included in my legal name when i changed it in 1989, infers “sunset” and/or “nightfall” and/or “eclipse”, which basically summarize the other tangents upon which this blog ventures from time to time.

i’m pretty much a hard-core weird-ass former-military version of an artsy-fartsy man of the 1990’s. what else can i say. deal with it.

i have masked personal references where in previous versions of this blog i used people’s names. some are obvious:

  1. the Spouse-Unit
  2. #1 Son (the one i get to raise)
  3. #1 Daughter (the one i get to raise)

conversely, some are not so obvious:

  1. the Elder and Unknown—now Daughter the First—is my daughter who turned 18 in October, 2007 (the one i didn’t get to raise).
  2. the Eldest and Unknown is my son who was placed for adoption without my consent after he was born in May of 1987

you can find me on GameTap as “Synthaetica”, although i am rarely online these days. you can draw whatever inference you wish from the photograph, but i am not actually employed by Turner Broadcasting or the Turner Gaming Network. “Synthaetica” is also an alter-ego which i use on many photography and digital asset management forums. another alter-ego of mine is “commander other”. you can find commander other at the otherwhirled.

while i enjoy using these alter-egos, they are but affectations. my name is Dawnne Gee. i am the owner and lead photographer of ShadowMoon Productions, a photography and digital production service in Harrisburg, SD, serving south-eastern South Dakota, northeastern Iowa, and south-western Minnesota. i am a soccer referee, a referee instructor, and will be seeking certification as an assessor in the fall of 2007. at 40-something, i continue to play soccer in a mixed-age coed league. after six years of Ryuku Karate in the military and a fifteen-year hiatus, i took up TaeKwonDo in the winter of 2006-07 with #1 Son, and am now part of the student instructor team. in the distant past, i served in the US Army as a forward-area reconnaissance specialist, intelligence analyst, and Russian linguist. we moved to our current home in August of 2004 from Camarillo, CA. prior to southern California, we lived in Albuquerque, NM from 1992 through 1998.
